Following Iron Man’s role in saving New York from aliens and a rouge god in The Avengers, the Iron Man franchise was free to break the confines of reality (if it hadn’t already, to a degree) and get even more creative with its characters this time around.  This enables the most recent film in the series to be even more action packed than the last, and a fair bit darker.
